Bob Parker

Inducted: 2025

Politics and sport do mix for Bob Parker, the former mayor of, and coach in, Onaping Falls. Born and raised in White Rock, Nova Scotia, Bob grew up loving hockey. He began his career as a skater and later transitioned to goalie, despite lacking key equipment like a mask, goalie skates, chest protector and blocker. In 1957, he followed other Maritimers west and north to find work in the mines of Northern Ontario.

Notable Highlights:

  • Helped launch and coach Levack Huskies, eventual winners of back-to-back NOHA Intermediate B
  • Created Onaping Falls Huskies
  • Moved the transition forward of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) from junior B to junior A
  • Coached local atom players, including Dave Taylor, future L.A. Kings all-star forward
  • Coached baseball and softball and was a hockey referee

Miscellaneous: Bob originally formed the Levack Intermediate Huskies from hockey talent he had played with or against in the INCO Shift League. In his years of involvement with the management of the Onaping Falls Huskies (juniors), Bob always selected a head coach who had previously played for him during his coaching days.
