Many are the Sudbury hockey organizer who can boast strong ties to the Silver Stick Tournament. Few, however, enjoy both the tenure and scope of responsibility that Peter Michelutti Sr. does. Though he can look back on more than three decades of offering a helping hand, it was alongside the late Art Connor that the lifelong Sudbury resident first took on the primary role as tournament administrator almost 20 years ago.
And this certainly wasn’t his first hockey related venture. A coach at a variety of levels for some thirty years, Michelutti Sr. was an assistant to the Doug Bonhomme-led Cambrian Golden Shield varsity teams that excelled in the 1990’s, capturing a national title in 1996-97.
Notable Highlights:
Peter and his wife Debbie are parents to two children: Andrea, a long-team teacher and now principal within the Waterloo Region District School Board, and Peter Jr., heavily involved in the family business (End of the Roll) and also boasting an impressive hockey resume.
Following his NCAA career at Northern Michigan University and a brief stint in Italy, Peter Jr. returned home to Sudbury, following in his father’s footsteps and coaching many a hockey team, including the national championship Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves crew in 2007-08. Peter Sr. ws once a part-owner of the Sudbury Wolves.
Through his involvement both with Carpetland and End of the Roll, Peter Sr. has providing a great deal of corporate sponsorship to local minor sports teams and endeavours.
