Mike Miron

Though first introduced to the sport of lacrosse at the age of 17, Capreol native Mike Miron took just three years of development as a goaltender in the sports that sees a vulcanized rubber ball wired in the direction of the net at jaw-dropping speeds to work his way into being a first round National Lacrosse League selection of the Columbus Landsharks.

Progressing rapidly through juvenile and junior stints that would see Miron earn a Minto Cup championship, the seven-year pro would attain all-star status with the Arizona Sting while league the league in saves. Upon his return to Sudbury, Miron immediately immersed himself into coaching and skill development and has guided the U22 Rockhounds to three provincial championships.

Notable Highlights:

• While playing in Arizona, Mike was a member of a team that was partially owned by Wayne Gretzky, with pictures of the affable netminder with the likes of supermodel Cindy Crawford, musician Kenny G and basketball star Steve Nash all part of his social media albums.
• In 2005, Miron and the Sting advanced to the NLL finals versus the Toronto Rock, settling for second after defeating both Colorado and Calgary on their playoff run.

Miron’s first experience in lacrosse was helping out a high-school friend whose team needed a goalie, late in the season – with the large-bodied northern lad posting five straight shutouts, catching the eyes of junior scouts in the Whitby area. During his time in Columbus, Miron worked and played for the team, becoming something of a “face of the franchise”. After blowing out his knee in 2007, Miron made the decision to return home and work for the railway.
