With an involvement in local youth hockey that has spanned 45 years or so, Bob Allen has filled a wide variety of roles, beginning as a coach and ascending to association president with Walden Minor Hockey Association. From 1983 through until 2013, Bob served as the director of the Under-17 program with the Northern Ontario Hockey Association.
He would spend more than three decades as a lead instructor with the Hockey Canada coaching certification program. He was a member of the gold medal winning U17 Team Ontario staff at the Canada Winter Games (1991-1992) and was part of the coaching staff with the Rayside-Balfour Sabrecats of the NOJHL.
