While the sport of fastball in Capreol dates back to the 1940’s or so, it was actually a stretch running from roughly the mid-fifties to the early seventies when the local men’s teams, often known as the Mazzucas, were among the very best in the province. Over the span of 13 years, teams representing the tiny rail town would capture Ontario Amateur Softball Association championships no less than eight different times.
With pitching at the forefront of this sport, Sudbury Hall of Famer Ezio Bevilacqua was often called to the mound for the biggest of games, with his supporting cast across the diamonds over the years numbering in the hundreds.
