LEO ROININEN

A member of the Canadian team that would compete at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, track and field thrower (primarily javelin) Leo Roininen would go on to capture gold two years later at the British Empire Games (now Commonwealth Games) in New Zealand. One of the countless very talented Finnish athletes who made their way to northern Ontario, Roininen would excel at Sudbury Mining and Technical School, earning himself a scholarship at Washington State University.
