Over the course of a teaching career that spanned more than 35 years, Sonny Gawalko helped shape the lives of literally thousands of students at Sheridan Tech / Sudbury Secondary School. Active as a coach virtually every single year in sports as diverse as hockey, badminton, football, tennis and track and field, Gawalko served as the secretary/treasurer of NOSSA Athletics for much of his teaching tenure.
Post retirement, he arguably became even more active, a fixture at local hockey tournaments (Big Nickel and Silver Stick, most notably), serving as track announcer at the SDSSAA T & F Championships for years on end, and volunteering with almost every single major sporting event that was held in Sudbury these past 30-40 years.
